Scouting Report: Scott Frazier, RHP, Upland (CA) HS (2010 Draft)

Scott Frazier found the velocity bump from the 90-91 range in the summer and the fall to 90-93 this spring. Paired with his 6-4 height and the makings of a frame some teams think has more power yet in store and you can understand why someone will take a flyer on him.

Scott Frazier, RHP
6-4, 200
Upland HS
Games Seen: 2, Innings: 10 (Spring 2010, also Summer and Fall 2009)

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Tall, lean, lanky and yet to fill out. Narrow hips, high hips, hollow chest. Still growing into his body.

STRENGTHS: FB 90-93 in early innings, some low life and late movement, some cut action. SL early in games, 73-75. Decent CH, 80-81.

WEAKNESSES: Lacks stamina to maintain velocity and stuff. Power drops off in mid-game, but did maintain 89-90 into seventh inning of last game I saw. Does not repeat delivery – everything suffers for it. Tends to elevate FB too many times. SL lacks hard power and shape, movement and command. Lacks true breaking ball now.

SUMMARY: Might profile as bullpen arm in coming years. Needs to continue building upon strong spring. Under the ball and pushing too many times. Has the right body for the job. Would call him a work-in-progress and continue following. Grades could improve with adjustments.

GRADES (Present/Future):
Fastball       40/60
Slider           40/40
Change-up 40/50
Control       30/40
Command 30/40
Overall Future Potential: 46
